Patty exits early from Miami

Filed under: News — Paddy @ 2:25 pm

Another disappointing result for Patty in the super Tier-I tournament Miami, where she lost to little known unseeded Kaia Kanepi of Estonia in the second round in straight sets 1-6, 4-6. In a windy afternoon, Patty struggled to adjust to the wind, that effected her serve and return game. Patty lost her serve 3 times and unable to capitalize the 2 break point chances she got from her opponent. Kai served well and won all of her service games.

Patty is still struggling to find her form and her usual consistency this season. She played 7 tournaments so far and the best results are from the Dubai and Doha tournaments where she reached the Quarter finals in both the tournaments. Her win-loss record so far is 9-7.

Clay court season starts next, and Patty is scheduled to play the two North american tournaments Amelia Island starts from April 2nd and Charleston starts from April 9th. Patty has a lot of points to defend in the next tournaments, she reached the tier I tournament Charleston final last year. Let’s Hope Patty will have a better clay court season. All the best for your next tournaments Patty!

Sony Ericsson Open - Tough draw for Patty

Filed under: News — Paddy @ 4:30 pm

The draw for Sony Ericsson Open has been released and Patty got the tough quarter with #1 seed Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Nicole Vaidisova all in Patty’s quarter. Patty is seeded #11 for this tournament and has a bye in the 1st round.

In the second round Patty will play either Kaia Kanepi of Estonia or Tsvetana Pironkova of Bulgaria. Patty played Tsvetana Pironkova once before in the 2006 Paris Open on indoor Carpet courts and Patty won that match in straight sets. Patty has never played Kaia Kanepi before.

Patty can meet #21 seeded Marion Bartoli of France in the third round. In the 4th round Patty could meet the talented teen Nicole Vaidisova and Maria Sharapova in the quarters. If Patty overcomes all these tough matches, Svetlana Kuznetsova or Martina Hingis will be possibly waiting for her in the Semis.

Second seed Justine Henin, Nadia Petrova, Jelena Jankovic, Indian wells champion Daniela Hantuchova are in the other half of the draw.

Amelie Mauresmo of France and Elena Dementieva of Russia pulled out of this event due to injuries.

Miami is the super Tier I tournament and considered one of the biggest tournaments outside Grandslams and the Championships. Patty played this event last year and pulled out from the 4th round due to an injury.

Patty will play her first round match most probably on Friday or Saturday. All the best to Patty and stay tuned for more news about all Patty’s matches right here!

The Belgian saved match point at 4-5, 30-40 on another net cord, breaking Patty when the ball clipped the net and fell in.

Patty is through the quarters in Doha after she defeated Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain 6-3 6-4.  In the quarters Patty will play Justine Henin of Belgium.

Unlike her previous matches Patty played the match very well against a tough opponent like Anabel and rewarded with a straight set victory.

Justine Henin expects a tough quarter-final outing against Schnyder.

“She really gave me a lot of trouble in the past. We are always involved in big fights, in three sets,” Henin said.
