Patty playing as the #4 seed on the Amelia Island tournament clay courts played Venus Williams in her second round and lost in three close sets 3-6 6-3 4-6.

Venus Williams is unseeded in the tournament mainly due to the injuries kept her inactive in the last season. Playing in front of the home crowd the American rallied behind to win against Patty.

Patty started the first set very well. Patty served superbly winning 90% of the first serve points. Patty raced to a 4-1 lead and successfully served for the set at 5-3.

After Venus won the second set with a similar score line, Patty started the third set well by gaining a 3-1 lead. Venus fought back winning 4 consecutive games and lead 4-3. In the next game, Patty had a very poor service game with two double faults and netted 2 easy back hands that allowed Venus to serve the match at 5-4.

Patty’s next tournament will be Charleston. This tournament also will be played on green Clay. Patty reached final last year in this tournament with an impressive victory over Justine Henin in the semi-finals. Patty must play well in the coming clay court tune ups to get good seeding for the French open.
