Akiko Morigami eased through to the semi’s of the Cincinnati Women’s Open. The 7th seed defeated the Swiss number 2 seed in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.

Morigami now faces tournament revelation Akgul Amanmuradova of Uzbekistan. The number 141 of the world defeated American Lillia Osterloh 6-1, 6-4.

Russian Anna Chakvetadze had a hard time winning against FedCup teammate and longtime friend Elena Vesnina. The number 1 seed lost the first set to Versnina in a tie-break. A shoulderinjury however ended the match prematurely for 6th seed Elena Vesnina. After 6-0 in the second set she retired the match in the final set on 4-1.

Chakvetadze now meets Indian sensation Sania Mirza who defeated Olga Govortsova from Belarus 6-1, 6-1.
